During the winter of 1916-1917, 41st Division were holding the line on the southern part of the Belgian front, to the south of Ypres. It was here on 24th February, 1917 that 10th Royal West Surrey (Queens), of 124 Brigade, carried out a large raid near Hollandscheschuur Farm, north-west of Wytschaete. During this raid they captured 55 of the enemy and a machine-gun and blew in a mine shaft. However this success came at a cost and the battalion suffered a number of casualties. One of these was Edwin Cherry. |
